東西 (Some East Some West) I

HK$2,800.00
Sold

Hand-painted and gold leafed wood sculpture, mounted acrylic on canvas | One of a kind

  • Metric (mm): 210 x 210 x 32mm

  • Imperial (inches): 8.27 x 8.27 x 1.26in

東西 (Some East Some West) is a playful yet thought-provoking commentary on the meeting of cultures and the accumulation of “stuff” in a global exchange. Featuring two enamel pin-inspired mahjong tiles—one reading 東 (East) and the other 西 (West)—this piece explores the fluidity of East meets West, both as directional opposites and as a colloquial term for "stuff" we gather in this exchange.

The tiles sit on repurposed checkered denim, a nod to everyday life, and are mounted in framed acrylic, merging traditional symbolism with modern materials. Each of the three pieces in this series arranges the tiles differently, offering a unique take on the relationship between cultures, commodities, and how we define "things" in our lives.

A one-of-a-kind series that blends cultural references with contemporary design to spark dialogue on the stuff we accumulate and the dynamic exchange between East and West.

Pin Drop Moments is a collection of emblems — of layered identities, collective belonging, and cultural dialogues. Inspired by the humble enamel pin, each piece is scaled up and sculpted into wall-worthy statements that are playful, glossy, and unexpected. They are reminders of your moments of transformation and evolution.

This series celebrates the "in-between": High meets low (pop culture and traditional craft, fine art and street signage), East meets West (Hong Kong motifs reimagined through diasporic eyes), and Strength meets softness (hands that hold, arms that twist, knots that hug.)

The works live in the overlap of memory and material: repurposed denim, neon acrylic, lacquered steel and wood. Each piece is one-of-a-kind, with no reproductions. They're meant to feel like discoveries — pins you didn’t know you were collecting until you stood still and looked.

About the Artist

I’m Erin Hung — an artist, illustrator and mental health advocate based in Hong Kong. My work is often a reflection of healing, identity, and reclaiming joy. This collection draws on my love of metaphor and nostalgia to make space for humour, beauty, and emotional honesty. My hope is that these pieces spark something in you — a giggle, a pause, a personal pin drop moment of your own.
